Creative Cloud All Apps unlocks more than 20 different programs, and that’s exactly the problem for a beginner — where do you even start? The good news: almost nobody uses all of them. Here’s which app to open first, based on what you actually want to create.
Want to edit photos?
Start with Lightroom. It’s built around a simple slider-based workflow — exposure, color, cropping — and organizes your whole photo library. Most beginners find it far less intimidating than Photoshop, and it covers 90% of what casual photo editing needs. Move to Photoshop once you need pixel-level retouching, compositing multiple images, or removing objects from a photo.
Want to design things — social posts, flyers, logos?
Start with Adobe Express (included with most Creative Cloud plans) for quick templated graphics, then graduate to Illustrator once you need custom vector logos, icons or artwork that has to scale to any size without blurring. Illustrator has a steeper learning curve, so don’t start there unless you already know you need vector work specifically.
Want to edit video?
Start with Premiere Rush — a simplified version of Premiere Pro built for quick edits on a deadline: trim clips, add music and text, export for social media. Move to full Premiere Pro once you’re doing multi-camera edits, color grading or anything more advanced than a straightforward cut-and-export.
Want to lay out documents — magazines, ebooks, brochures?
InDesign is the one to learn — it’s built specifically for multi-page layouts with consistent typography and grids, which neither Photoshop nor Illustrator handle well.
Want to draw or paint digitally?
Adobe Fresco is the most beginner-friendly — natural brush and pencil tools built for a tablet or touchscreen, without Photoshop’s full toolset getting in the way.
